Urban Alliance was recently awarded grant funding from Farmington Bank ($30,000) and Foodshare ($4,650) that will be mobilized to help increase the impact of churches and ministry organizations who participate in UA’s Beyond the Basics and Next Generation initiatives.

The Farmington Bank grant will support capacity-building efforts in food pantries run by churches and ministry organizations that participate in Urban Alliance’s Beyond the Basics initiative. More specifically, funds will be used to provide training and grant funding to help food pantries create a welcoming culture that affirms the dignity and potential of each person they serve, offer resource centers to help connect people they serve to needed community assistance, and implement the Supporting Wellness At Pantries (SWAP) system to promote nutrition at their food pantries.

The Foodshare Grant will support capacity-building efforts at five churches and ministry organizations that participate in Urban Alliance’s Next Generation initiative and will hire youth as summer meals assistants. Summer meals assistants will engage children from the community, offer health-related activities to children during the Summer Meals Program, and offer food to parents and caregivers while children are receiving their meals.
