TOPIC: Supporting People With Serious Mental Illness
Serious mental illness (SMI) is defined as a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder resulting in serious functional impairment, which substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities. Approximately 5.6% of all U.S. adults suffer from a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or chronic major depression.
All too often, church leaders do not know how to support individuals and families with a member struggling with SMI. This learning community will provide an over of SMI, practical ways churches can support individuals and families, available supports in the community as well and models that can be incorporated into church settings to offer support.
All in-person participants will receive a free book!
